Press Release
Islamic Finance news Roadshow in France
Expanding the Realms of Islamic Finance
On Monday the 15th November 2010 the Islamic Finance news Roadshow, now in its 3rd year, will visit Paris, France. The Roadshow series is set to offer participants a comprehensive industry insight through a series of events in key developing Islamic financial markets.
The IFN 2010 Roadshow will visit 17 cities across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, North America and Europe.
The Roadshow is designed as a comprehensive one-day event, consisting of plenary sessions, presentations and keynote addresses.
It is encouraging to see that Islamic finance is picking up in France. Following from the recent measures passed by the French government to facilitate the introduction of Ijarah, Murabahah and Istisnah products in France in July, Al Baraka Banking Group has announced the opening of five branches in the country for next year.
French banks have long been involved in global Islamic finance. For instance, BNP Paribas has advised on a Malaysian Islamic exchange traded fund (ETF), and has itself recently listed its first Islamic ETF in Asia. BNP Paribas and Societe Generale have long established Islamic banking windows operating out of Bahrain and Dubai respectively.
While concerted efforts by the French government began over 3 years ago and developments seem positive, the introduction of Shariah compliant finance to the country need to be further analyzed and explored.
