We’re also delighted that the Securities Commission Malaysia will again play host to the world’s largest dedicated forum for the Islamic investment community.

Abdulhaq Mohammed is the firm’s Head of Asia and the Managing Partner of its Singapore office. Abdulhaq has held several senior management positions within the firm, including sitting on the management board for six years, as well as being the firm’s international managing partner until late 2021.  He specialises in infrastructure and real estate and his areas of expertise include PPP and concession arrangements relating to transport and social infrastructure, real estate development and investment, and strategic legal advice. He has advised on property restructurings and the creation of regulatory frameworks. He is also particularly experienced in leading large teams on complex projects. He often advises overseas investors on the structuring, financing and execution of their real estate investments into the UK and Europe. Abdulhaq has close to 20 years’ experience working in the Middle East and prior to that also worked in our London office. He is consistently recognised as a top-tier lawyer by both The Legal 500 and Chambers Global.

Jessica Tan is Principal, Fixed Income Indices at S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI). With a key focus on Asia Pacific indices and clients, Jessica drives the development and management of index products, ensuring their strategic planning, implementation and long-term success. Prior to joining the product management team, Jessica led the Asian indices client services team to provide the highest level of service to index clients. She later transitioned to the global research & design team, conducting market analysis and developing new index products before combining her expertise in client management and product development in the product management role. Jessica graduated from Singapore Institute of Management with a Bachelor of Science in banking and finance under the University of London programme.

Mohamad Safri Shahul Hamid joined IILM after spending 13 years at CIMB, where he had served the bank in various capacities including as a Deputy CEO at CIMB Islamic and as a Senior Managing Director at the bank’s public sector, group wholesale banking. Safri brings with him almost 30 years of experience in the banking and financial sector including over 20 years of meaningful experience as a pioneer, structurer, transactor and renowned leader in Islamic finance locally and internationally. Safri has played an instrumental role in bringing some of the world’s first, groundbreaking and award-winning Islamic transactions to the market and is well regarded as one of the pioneers of the Islamic capital market globally. Safri has a strong credit background having served as a group credit committee member at CIMB between 2012 and 2020 as well as well as a senior analyst at Malaysian Rating Corporation Berhad from 2000 to 2003. Safri holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the International Islamic University Malaysia and an MBA (Globalisation) from Maastricht School, the Netherlands. He is a Chartered Accountant with the Malaysian Institute of Accounts. Safri is a speaker at many local and international Islamic conferences and events.

Darius Nass is an Associate Director for Global Equity Indices at S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI). He is based out of the Singapore office and is responsible for the product management of S&P DJI’s global index suites, including the S&P Global BMI, S&P Global 1200 and S&P Islamic Indices. In his role, Darius leads efforts to develop new benchmarks, promotes existing offerings and regularly publishes market commentary, analytical reports and research.

Prior to joining S&P DJI, Darius was part of the Nasdaq Index R&D team, where he was led product development initiatives for the APAC region.

Darius holds a Master’s degree in Quantitative Finance from Singapore Management University.

Izad is the Chief Executive Officer of Principal Islamic Asset Management. He has 20 years of experience working in financial institutions including UBS and Citigroup, focusing on equities. He has also held key responsibilities in fund raising activities as well as managing assets of government-linked companies. He was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Urusharta Jamaah and Chief Investment Officer of Penjana Kapital. As the CEO of Principal Islamic, he is responsible for managing and developing the Islamic business in Malaysia and other markets Principal Islamic is operating in. Through his leadership and expertise, he has played an instrumental role in growing Principal Group’s (Principal Malaysia and Principal Islamic) Shariah compliant assets under management, now valued at $7.95 billion as of 31 July 2024. Izad holds a BSc Economics (Hons) from the London School of Economics and Political Science and an MBA from the University of Nottingham. Izad is a holder of the Capital Markets Services Representative’s License for fund management and investment advice.

Dr. Marjan Muhammad is the Deputy President Research at ISRA Institute, INCEIF University. In her current capacity, she oversees different portfolios including research and innovation, research management, assessment and publication, research commercialization, and Islamic finance online database (I-FIKR) developed by ISRA. She was previously the Director of Research Affairs Department at ISRA from 2013-2017. She is currently a member of the Shariah Advisory Council of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) effective from 1 November 2019 and a member of the Shariah Advisory Council of Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) effective from 1 July 2023. Prior to that, she was a member of Shariah Committee at a few local Islamic banks. At the international level, she sits on the Advisory Committee of Experts of Lotus Bank Limited and Shariah Supervisory Board of Lotus Capital Limited, both are based in Nigeria. Marjan obtained her bachelor’s degree in Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage (Fiqh and Usul al-Fiqh) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and graduated from her master’s and PhD degrees at the same university.

Tayyab Ahmed is Head of Research, Islamic Finance at LSEG Data & Analytics, leading the Islamic finance research team and overseeing the production of thought leadership reports on Islamic finance and MENA related topics. Some examples include the annual IFDI report, as well as the OIC Megatrends, OIC Infrastructure and Sukuk reports.

Earlier in his career, he was an Associate Director of Strategy in Malaysia for Ernst & Young (EY) where he focused on government strategy, team and stakeholder management, and mentoring associates. Tayyab received his MPhil from Cambridge, LLM from London School of Economics, and Islamic Finance Qualification (IFQ) from the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments.

The Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD) is a multilateral development financial institution and is part of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group.

The ICD was established in November 1999 to support the economic development of its member countries through the provision of finance for private sector projects, promoting competition and entrepreneurship, providing advisory services to governments and private companies and encouraging cross-border investments.

The ICD has an authorized capital of US$4 billion. Currently, the shareholders of the ICD are the IDB (50%), 53 Islamic countries (30%) and five public financial institutions (20%).

ICD mandate and objectives

The ICD fosters sustainable economic growth in its 53 member countries by:

  • Financing private sector investment
  • Mobilizing capital in the international financial markets, and
  • Providing advisory services to business and governments.

The ICD selects the financing projects based on their contribution to economic development considering factors such as job creation, Islamic finance development, contribution to exports, etc. The ICD also provides advisory services to governments and private sector groups on policies designed to encourage the establishment, expansion and modernization of private enterprises, the development of capital markets, best management practices and to enhance the role of the market economy. The ICD operates to complement the activities of the IDB in member countries.

The ICD is rated ‘AA/FQ’ by Fitch Ratings, ‘Aa3/P-1’ by Moody’s Investors Service and ‘A+’ by Standard & Poor’s.

Established 26 years ago in 1994 as a multilateral institution and a member of the Islamic Development Bank Group, the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC) was tasked to promote cross-border trade and foreign direct investments in its member countries.

The ICIEC’s mission is to make trade and investment between member countries and the world more secure through the Shariah compliant risk mitigation tool. Its vision is to be recognized as the preferred enabler of trade and investment for sustainable economic development in member countries.

The ICIEC is the only multilateral export credit and investment insurance corporation in the world that provides Shariah-compliant insurance and reinsurance solutions.

Today, the ICIEC supports trade and investment flows in 47 member countries spanning across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Its target clients are corporates (both exporters and investors), banks and financial institutions as well as export credit agencies and insurers.

The International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) is a member of the IDB Group. It was established with the purpose of advancing trade among OIC member countries, which would ultimately contribute to the overarching goal of improving the socioeconomic conditions of the people across the world. The ITFC commenced operations in January 2008 and has since consolidated all trade finance businesses that used to be handled by various windows within the IDB Group. Earning an ‘A1’ rating from Moody’s Investors Service reflects the ITFC’s efficiency in service delivery by responding swiftly to customer needs in a market-driven business environment.

Since 2008, the ITFC has provided more than US$40.2 billion of trade financing to OIC member countries, making it the leading provider of trade solutions for the needs of OIC member countries. The International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM) is an international organization established on the 25th October 2010 by central banks, monetary authorities and multilateral organizations to develop and issue short-term Shariah compliant financial instruments to facilitate effective cross-border liquidity management for institutions that offer Islamic financial services.

The current members of the IILM Governing Board are the central banks and monetary agencies of Indonesia, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nigeria, Qatar, Turkiye and the UAE as well as the multilateral Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector.

Membership of the IILM is open to central banks, monetary authorities, financial regulatory authorities or government ministries and agencies that have regulatory oversight of finance or trade and commerce as well as multilateral organizations.

The IILM is headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
