12th November 2019, JW Marriott Kuwait City

Date: 12th November 2019

Day: Tuesday

ATTENDEES:

Venue: JW Marriott Kuwait City

According to the Institute of International Finance (IIF), global debt has risen by US$150 trillion over the past 15 years reaching US$247 trillion as of the first quarter of 2018. Compare this to global GDP, which in 2017 was US$80.7 trillion according to the World Bank. This rapid rise in debt coupled with deteriorating economic indicators is worrying international investors and forcing them to seek safer investment alternatives in order to weather the storm they believe is inevitable.

For investors in the GCC region these developments are only magnified when adding in geopolitical tensions, trade wars and the high volatility of oil prices. These investors have long been diversifying their investments outside the region, with a particular interest in the developed markets in Europe and the U.S. They have historically preferred these investments for safety, security and long-term growth opportunities.

Today, GCC investors’ interest in protecting and preserving their wealth is the highest it has been in recent memory. Over the past few years, we have noticed a marked shift in investment preferences. Prior to 2008, GCC investors were investing heavily within the region, particularly in real estate and private equity. In 2018, interest has shifted towards safer investments in real estate in their home countries as well as income-generating real estate in the U.K., Germany and the U.S. There are also a growing number of technology investors in the region who have been investing in fintech-related investments as well as healthcare and medical technology.

Firms raising capital around the world have taken notice of GCC investors changing investment preferences and high demand for international investment opportunities. Reaching these investors and decision-makers, however, has proven to be challenging. The traditional methods of reaching these investors has become less accessible, such as using third-party placement agents, direct sales agents, roadshows and advertisements. Instead, these investors are looking to invest by building long-term relationships with people they can trust. The best time to start building these relationships is now.

Why Quorum Centre?

Quorum Centre for Strategic Studies was established in London in 2016 by a group of high net-worth (HNW) individuals from Kuwait. These individuals grew tired of the investment advice they received over the years from their bankers and advisors. Their solution was to form their own research and advisory firm. Quorum Centre today offers these individuals, and their expanded network of companies and colleagues, an alternative source of financial, economic and investment advice. Since establishment, Quorum Centre has been asked by HNW individuals to recommend and suggest investment opportunities. However, due to the breadth and diversity of investment opportunities, Quorum has decided to host a series of private investor evenings bringing together investment professionals and investors.

Target Audience:

Private investors from the GCC, Europe and elsewhere interested in largely, but not exclusively, in Shariah compliant investment opportunities.

Who should participate:

This event is ideal for companies looking to raise capital for their new or existing ventures. This can include real estate development projects, acquisition financing, technology companies with proven business models looking for growth capital and mature companies looking for expansion or acquisition capital. This event is also appealing for service providers catering to the high net-worth market, such as private banks, investment advisory firms, luxury service providers and professional services firms.

Format:

  • All guests are expected to arrive within half an hour of the doors opening.
  • Each guest will be presented with a badge containing full contact information ensuring no anonymity
  • Guests will be escorted to the Private Reception Networking area where Partners will have dedicated space for meeting and welcoming guests

  • The event will begin with a keynote presentation by a recognized expert in economics and investments, providing an overview of the current investment climate globally, followed by an outlook on financial markets for the coming year.

  • Lunch or dinner will then be served
  • Following lunch or dinner there will be a series of 5-minute investment tracks, each featuring companies presenting their investment opportunities
