About The IFN Asia Forum
Welcome to the IFN Asia Forum
The growth figures for Asia are phenomenal, despite current market conditions. The GDP for Southeast Asia alone is expected to grow at an average of 5.6% in 2012, up from 5.3% this year, while intra-trade between South Asia and the Middle East has seen a hike to 11% over the last year, and is expected to remain on an upward trajectory.
Currently the most liquid and resource-rich market, Asia has become the focal point for investors looking to escape the financial uncertainty in western markets. The key to Asia’s popularity is its status as an emerging market, which directly implies a gamut of untapped investment opportunities for development and capital requirement to serve its growing population. With its natural disposition for Islamic finance due to its population demographic, countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Hong Kong are expected to continue attracting Shariah compliant investments and funds; and inevitably become market leaders in the area with continued regulatory support and proper infrastructure development.
Malaysia, currently the world’s most prolific Sukuk issuer, is expected to continue driving the growth and desire for Islamic finance products, while industry players are confident that markets such as Singapore and Hong Kong will fully capitalize on their position as financial and economic hubs to drive product innovation within the Islamic finance market. Indonesia, with its large Muslim population and unwavering desire to introduce and implement Islamic finance on a grassroots and capital markets level; is a sleeping giant waiting to be awakened.
With all eyes now on Asia, it is crucial for industry players within the region and around the world to continue developing the market with the proper implementation of regulations and sufficient infrastructure provisions, and to tap the under-developed areas of project and infrastructure financing, wealth management, retail banking and product development; to name a few. With ongoing support from regulators and the government, there is no doubt that Asia will be at the forefront of the global Islamic finance industry’s growth.
It is on the basis of these developments that the Islamic Finance news Asia Forum 2011 begins, with an overview of the current environment and opportunities offered by the Islamic finance industry. A mix of practitioners from all areas of the industry will participate to give you an all round perspective of the various aspects of Islamic finance.
The event has been set up to facilitate discussions on how to maximize these opportunities, and how you can participate in the industry’s growth.
We hope that you will find this event useful and productive, and discover new ways on how to harness developments in the Islamic finance industry.
