Waqf Features in Islamic Funds, Regulatory, Structuring and Shariah Issues
A Two-Part Online Training Program

Date:  21st & 22nd June 2021

WHY THIS COURSE?

In recent years Waqf has evolved from being a tool for philanthropical purposes to becoming a recognised, mainstream financial instrument of its own right. With inherent flexibility and adaptability married to impressive recent development and evolution, Waqf concepts have been applied to a range of innovative new Waqf products involving equities, deposits, funds, Sukuk and many types of liquid assets. Recent analysis also suggests that with increased awareness of Waqf, a growing number of Muslims are willing to contribute to society by donating their assets to be managed by Waqf institutions, delivering benefits in the form of social welfare and public facilities. Waqf institutions and those potentially managing Waqf assets therefore play an important role in promoting shared prosperity, social causes and financial inclusion.

This 6-hour online program will provide participants with a detailed understanding of the objectives of Waqf and its essential structuring elements when applied to financial products. We identify and explain the differences between Waqf, Sadaqah and Zakat. We will also cover in detail the different types of Waqf and kinds of cash Waqf and investments of cash in Waqf instruments. The program will also discuss in detail Waqf features in Islamic funds, Islamic wholesale funds, the regulatory requirements for each and the important considerations of structuring Waqf based Sukuk and Waqf-based Shares.

  • Key Learning Objectives and Takeaways
    • Evaluate the important structural and operational issues of Waqf
    • Understand different types of Waqf and their uses and applications
    • Assess the application of Waqf in Islamic funds, Sukuk and shares
    • Discuss Waqf in fund management, including important regulatory requirements such as the Waqf-featured Fund Framework and other guidelines
