Islamic Finance news Oman Seminar 2016

As the last country in the GCC to implement Islamic banking and finance, Oman since its participation has experienced what has been described as a meteoric rise in the industry. The Sultanate has managed to establish a presence in all market segments from capital market transactions, to retail banking, to Takaful and asset management. Leveraging such encouraging development, IFN presents its inaugural Oman Seminar: focusing on the opportunities available in the energetic and fast-growing Omani Islamic market for both capital-raising and investment purposes.

The seminar kicks off with addresses from key figures in Oman’s Islamic banking and finance industry: Darwish Al Baloushi, the country’s minister of finance; and Hamood Sangour Hashim Al Zadjali, the executive president of the Central Bank of Oman.

The first session is set to provide insight on what Oman’s Islamic finance landscape will look like in five years and what market players and regulators will need to do to maintain growth. The following discussion elaborates on the Omani Islamic capital market, taking a look at domestic transactions and their impact on the future for capital-raising in Oman. These sessions feature key practitioners including Abdullah Salim Al-Salmi, the executive president of the Capital Market Authority of Oman; Dr Jamil El Jaroudi, CEO of Bank Nizwa; Salaam Said Al Shaksy, CEO of Alizz Islamic Bank; Dr Ashraf al Nabhani; the chairman of Muscat Securities Market; and Ahsan Ali, the managing director of Standard Chartered Saadiq.

The second part of the seminar presents two roundtable discussions on capital-raising opportunities for potential Omani issuers and an outlook for the Shariah compliant investment market. These segments will hear opinions from seasoned industry players including Abdul Samad Al Maskari, CEO of Al Madina Investment; Abdul Rahman Barham, a board member of Tilal Development Co; and Salman Ahmed, a partner at Trowers & Hamlins. Moving forward, the seminar will end with an outlook on Oman’s future prospects discussing Takaful issues and crowdfunding avenues as well as liquidity management strategies.

Concurrent to the seminar, IFN will also be hosting the IFN Oman Dialogue, a closed-door roundtable session comprising Oman’s most senior Islamic finance practitioners, regulators and stakeholders, designed to openly and without prejudice explore and evaluate the challenges and opportunities facing the Shariah compliant financing and investment market in Oman today and provide a platform for honest interaction in order to achieve a practical and achievable roadmap for future progress. The dialogue features key stakeholders in Oman’s Islamic finance industry, from regulators to Islamic financial institutions.

Designed to identify, evaluate and develop Islamic finance prospects within Oman, draw investors into the country to support opportunities within the oil and gas and infrastructure sector, gain the support of key players and government bodies as investors look to diversify their exposure, and look at Oman’s potential on a global scale, the IFN Oman Seminar 2016 will guarantee an exceptional
